In this video Dr. Damien Voiry and Dr. Rajesh Kappera explain the phase transformation of stable 2H-MoS2 to the metastable 1T-MoS2 phase using lithium intercalation.

For the purposes of this video we are using single crystal MoS2 samples grown by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Dr. Kappera describes how we can then use Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) to cover certain areas allowing us to selectively convert the uncovered areas of the CVD sample to the 1T phase while still preserving the 2H phase in the uncovered areas. This experimental procedure was used in Dr. Kappera's recent paper published in Nature Materials: Phase-engineered low-resistance contacts for ultrathin MoS2 transistors" (Kappera, R. et al. Nature Materials, 2014)

In December 2014 our group was featured in an MRS TV video that was displayed during the Fall 2014 Meeting in Boston, MA.
